A brief summary for Color TFT Active Matrix LCD:
A TFT is a Thin film transistor. In a TFT LCD the transistors are contained within the panel, which results in improving image stability improving over the previous LCD design. All but the least expensive color LCD screens since 2004 would be using this technology.It's true that earlier LCD televisions did have some imaging problems such as ghosting causing the optimal viewing area to be  directly straight in front or at a slight angle. But the industry has largely overcome these problems in recent years. It was thought for a long time that LCD technology would be limited to smaller size screens, or panels if you will, and wouldn't be able to compete against the plasma era in larger sizes. But this belief has been over ruled because of the new technology. It has been announced that manufacturers plan to invest billions of dollars into LCD production. So it would be safe to say LCD technology will be around for that long. There has been a 100 inch LCD television announced In August of 2006 by L.G. Phillips Consumer Electronics.
